Updates (volunteers, snacks, homework, etc)

What a wonderful class!  We are so blessed to have such loving students and sweet, supportive families!!  We are enjoying getting to know all of you.  We are looking forward to a fantastic year!

Communication:
Our doors are wide open!  We are available every day before and after school (before 8:30 and after 3:15) if you ever have any questions or would just like to chat.  If you prefer email, our addresses can be found on the TLCS website.  Please contact us any time!!

Volunteers:
We are excited to learn that so many of you would like to work with us in the classroom this year.  There are MANY opportunities to volunteer in kindergarten-- the more the merrier!!  We will have our volunteer sign-up sheet ready for you at Back-to-School Night on Thursday, September 11th. You will be able to start working in the classroom the following week.  In the meantime, please contact the office for our mandatory classroom volunteer background check.  Thanks!!

Snacks:
Please pack a healthy lunch and two snacks for your child every day.  Water bottles are also encouraged.  If you order hot lunch for your child, you will still need to pack two snacks.  Occasionally, children come to school without snacks and/or eat all of their food before our afternoon snack time.  If you would like to send in a large box of Goldfish crackers, pretzels, cereal, or other type of non-perishable "just in case" snack, we would really appreciate it!  Anything you send in will be happily eaten by our hungry little kinders.  Thanks!

Labels:
We strongly recommend labeling all outerwear and lunch containers.

Homework:
Regular homework will begin in a couple weeks.  A packet will be sent home every Monday and will be due every Friday.  Generally, homework will include nightly reading and sight word practice and one page of each of the following: handwriting, phonics, and math.

Class Work:
We send a lot of work home in the students' folders, but we also keep a lot of work in the classroom.  For example, we have language arts, math, and Bible workbooks as well as journals that we use every day.  These workbooks 'live' in the classroom until the end of the year.  You are welcome to come in the classroom and look at  your child's workbooks any time.  We also keep chapter tests and quarterly assessments in the classroom for reference.  If you would ever like to see anything, just ask (we'll say yes!).  Classwork is also displayed in the classroom for you and your children to enjoy.

Blog:
If you haven't done it already, we recommend that you subscribe to this blog by entering your email address above.  Thank you!!
